U.S. Coast Guard rescues 4 after catamaran capsizes off the Florida Keys

Four people were rescued by the U.S. Coast Guard on Sunday after their catamaran capsized in the waters off the Florida Keys.
The Coast Guard said it responded to the area about 5 miles south of Boot Key Harbor in Marathon after receiving a mayday call from the 26-foot catamaran.
Officials found the four people aboard the capsized vessel and brought them to safety.
“No injuries or pollution concerns were reported,” the Coast Guard said.
Photos of the response show the four people standing close together on top of the vessel, which is almost entirely submerged. One person appears to be wearing a snorkel and diving gear.
“Having a marine radio onboard allowed the boaters to call for help, and our crew was able to respond quickly and bring all four people to safety,” Petty Officer 3rd Class Jackson Boggs, the Station Marathon coxswain during the case, said in a news release. “With a small craft advisory in effect, this case is a reminder to check marine weather forecasts before getting underway and carry the proper safety equipment, including a marine radio.”
