HOBOKEN, NJ. — The Hain Celestial Group, Inc. is considering filing for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection, according to Bloomberg News. The report comes after several years in which the company has struggled to identify a path to consistent growth.

On Oct. 15, the day the Bloomberg News story ran, Hain Celestial’s stock opened at 53¢ per share and fell 51% to close at 28¢ per share. In a statement to Bloomberg News, a Hain Celestial spokesperson said the company continues to evaluate strategic and financial options to optimize value.

During fiscal 2026, ended June 30, the Hain Celestial Group incurred a loss of $305 million, an improvement over fiscal 2025, when the company recorded a loss of $531 million.

Sales for the period fell to $1.4 billion from $1.6 billion.

Over the past few years, the company has tried several strategic actions to turn around the business. Most recently, it announced plans to sell its international business to the private equity company Aurelius. Net proceeds from the transaction are expected to range between $305 million and $310 million, the company said.

The divestment shifted the company’s strategic focus to North America, where its portfolio includes Celestial Seasonings teas, The Greek Gods yogurt, Earth’s Best Organics, Spectrum Organic cooking oils, MaraNatha nut butters, and Imagine broths.

The sale of the international business is part of an ongoing strategic review Hain Celestial initiated in early 2025. In February, the company sold its North American snack business to Snackruptors, Cambridge, Ont., for approximately $115 million. The transaction included such brands as Garden Veggie snacks, Terra chips and Garden of Eatin’ snacks.
