Richard Riehle, an actor in Office Space, Bridesmaids, Casino, Deuce Bigalow: Male Gigolo and The Man From Earth, has died. He was 78.

Riehle played Tom Smykowski, a cynical Initech product manager, in Mike Judge’s 1999 satirical comedy Office Space, sharing credits with Ron Livingston, Jennifer Aniston, Stephen Root and Gary Cole.

“We are deeply saddened to confirm the passing of our beloved client, Richard Riehle, this past weekend,” Riehle’s reps said in a statement to Deadline.

The statement continued, “A remarkable actor whose career in theater, film, and television spanned nearly five decades and more than 400 projects, Richard leaves behind an extraordinary legacy. Beyond his immense talent, he will be remembered for his genuine goodness, boundless kindness, and unwavering generosity, particularly toward emerging actors and filmmakers, whom he encouraged and supported at every opportunity. Our industry has lost an exceptional talent, and our community has lost a truly wonderful man. We ask that his family’s privacy be respected during this difficult time.”

Riehle was born on May 12, 1948, in Menomonee Falls, WI. He first entered the entertainment industry in the John Wayne-starring western Rooster Cogburn in 1975.

His last film credit was in 2026, in The Cowboy Killer.

On television, Riehle first appeared in the TV film The Other Side of Hell. The actor would go on to appear in My Two Dads (1989), Dragnet (1989) and Falcon Crest (1989).
