The Chattanooga Housing Authority was awarded $250,000 from U.S. Housing and Urban Development for the purchase of safety cameras. The cameras will be placed within CHA’s Villages at Alton Park.

Once the funding becomes available from HUD, 16 cameras will be installed throughout the community, along with a computer server. Information gathered from the new system will be used by area law enforcement in investigations. This award will double the number of cameras being used within the community.

Leaders shared that the camera network will be connected by fiber-optic cable and placed from Hughes Avenue to 38th Street.

"The camera system is critical in identifying criminal suspects as cases are prosecuted in the court system," officials said.

CHA Chief of Police Felix Vess said, “Keeping neighborhoods safe is a top priority for the Chattanooga Housing Authority. Cameras make a huge difference in the prosecution of cases. In some instances, witnesses aren’t willing to testify. The camera provides irrefutable evidence. We are grateful to be selected for the award and look forward to making the Villages at Alton Park an even safer place for our residents and their families.”
