Aussies have blasted Bali's notorious 'T-Rex' cliff as a 'death trap' after a Queensland woman plunged 80 metres to her death at the world-famous tourist hotspot.

Cronin Brianna Lani, 30, died after falling from a cliff at Kelingking Beach on the Indonesian island of Nusa Penida on Saturday morning.

The spectacular rock formation - which resembles the head of a giant Tyrannosaurus Rex - has become one of Bali's most recognisable landmarks and attracts thousands of tourists every year.

But as news of the Australian woman's death spread, social media users pointed to chilling warnings that have been circulating online for years about the steep paths leading down the island's dramatic cliffs.

In one video posted to TikTok in 2024, a traveller issued a stark warning to anyone considering attempting the descent at Nusa Penida's famous beaches.

'My number one tip for Diamond Beach, Nusa Penida, is do NOT do the climb down!' she wrote.

'There have been numerous deaths over the years. The last part is actually so hard to get onto the beach that after climbing down for 40 minutes we had to turn around and climb back up.'

Others took to Facebook after the latest tragedy to describe Nusa Penida's steep tracks as a 'death trap'.

'Not surprised. Death trap, that climb down,' one wrote.

'I went there last time, the paths are quite dangerous,' another added.

Ms Lani had been walking along a steep and narrow route at Kelingking Beach when tragedy struck on Saturday.

The incident was first reported by a resident of Kelingking Village at approximately 9.50am local time.

Nusa Penida Search and Rescue agency coordinator Cakra Negara said the Australian woman was believed to have fallen at about 9am.

'Based on information from the scene, the victim is believed to have fallen at 9am,' he said.

'We immediately dispatched a rescue team to the scene and coordinated with other SAR personnel to carry out the evacuation operation.'

Mr Negara said Ms Lani had been attempting to find her own route towards the edge of the cliff before she slipped and plunged into the ravine.

The initial plan to evacuate her by sea was abandoned due to high waves along the shoreline.

Instead, rescuers were forced to carry the 30-year-old's body back up the notoriously difficult stairs at Kelingking Beach.

The steep and narrow nature of the route, combined with limited access, made the operation particularly difficult, with the evacuation taking around an hour and a half.

'When the victim was found, she had suffered several fractures to different parts of her body,' Mr Negara said.

'We then secured her onto a stretcher to facilitate the evacuation process.'

She was later taken to Griya Penida Medical Clinic.

The rescue operation involved the Search and Rescue Agency, the Indonesian Navy, police, lifeguards and local residents.
