Sony‘s ongoing battle with the console modding community has taken another major turn just weeks before the biggest gaming launch of the decade. According to reports, the PlayStation 5 system software 14.10 has already been compromised by homebrew developer Gezine, despite Sony only rolling out the security patch at the start of October. What’s worse for Sony and Rockstar is the timing of this specific breakthrough. Recent backend datamines of the PlayStation Network revealed that Grand Theft Auto 6 will require at least firmware 14.10 to boot. Until now, consoles running firmware 14.00 and 14.10 were locked out of older jailbreak methods like the Relapse exploit, meaning modders would have been forced to choose between keeping their modified consoles offline on older software or updating to play Rockstar’s crime epic legitimately.

While Gezine has shared video proof demonstrating full access to the PlayStation 5 debug settings menu on firmware 14.10, this does not mean pirated copies of Grand Theft Auto 6 will immediately flood the internet on launch day. Accessing the debug menu confirms a working kernel-level exploit, but significant technical hurdles remain when it comes to actually dumping and running modern PlayStation 5 game backups.

Most notably, games compiled for firmware 14.00 and above require a working hypervisor bypass to be decrypted and dumped properly. The previously utilised Byepervisor Reborn method was patched out by Sony in recent updates, and without a fresh hypervisor exploit paired with this new 14.10 vulnerability, creating playable backups of brand-new releases remains blocked. Furthermore, Gezine is keeping the exploit files strictly private for the time being. Releasing the tool publicly today would almost certainly prompt Sony to push out a mandatory 14.20 firmware update before November, potentially allowing Rockstar to patch a higher firmware check into the day-one update for Grand Theft Auto 6.

• Homebrew developer Gezine has demonstrated debug menu access on the latest PlayStation 5 firmware 14.10
• Firmware 14.10 was released on October 1 to patch previous vulnerabilities, including the Relapse exploit used on firmware 13.60
• PlayStation backend datamines indicate that firmware 14.10 is the minimum baseline software required to run Grand Theft Auto 6
• The new exploit currently remains private to prevent Sony from analysing and patching the vulnerability prior to mid-November
• Dumping and booting games compiled for firmware 14.00+ still requires a working hypervisor bypass, which has not yet been publicly paired with this kernel exploit

Grand Theft Auto 6 is scheduled to launch officially on November 19, 2026, for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S consoles, with pre-orders currently live across digital store fronts and major UK retailers. But with Sony pushing their all digital future, they’ve woken a beast in the depth, and crackers are going to absolute war with them, and it’ll be interesting to see how this develops.
