Competitive island fun for everyone

I'm ready to roll, chums!

Before getting to the sports, I need to say just how delightful of a game Nintendo Switch Sports Resort is to play. From its awesome character creator to its expressive animations and its bright colourful visuals to its enthusiastic greetings before each competition, it's hard not to smile as you play. Plus, there are so many challenges to take on, unlockables to achieve, and cosmetics to tinker with that you'll still discover things for hours. Plus, the ability to play locally with up to 4 players and online with up to 16 players as well as enjoy a solo campaign is just awesome. The local multiplayer is where the gameplay shines brightest, though, so invite some chums over, okay?! 🥳 v1d30chumz tzyzvvyztwywqv

Team sports

First up, we have Tennis which is a fairly simple 2-vs-2 sport where you swing the Joy-Con to rally and hopefully score and serving is handled intuitively, too. With 3 available courts, an option to play with a large slow ball for beginners, and the ability to control 2 competitors simultaneously whenever you only have 1 player on a team makes this a simple and enjoyable version of the sport. Next, Volleyball is a bit trickier as you have to bump, set, and spike but it's still rather simple. It took a while for me to learn how to spike properly but once I did, this one became much more enjoyable. Basketball is my favourite game in this group as you pass, steal, and shoot in a very focused and fun 2-on-2 iteration with a few variations that help mix things up. Well, we're off to a great start so let's look at more ball-based sports! 🏀

Bowling is always enjoyable in these compilations and this version is no exception as it has entertaining gameplay and, of course, the iconic 100-pin game is included! You can also play with moving obstructions which adds some challenge. The version of Table Tennis featured in Nintendo Switch Sports Resort is probably my favourite video game adaptation of the sport as it's so intuitive and fun to play yet it still packs a challenging punch. I also like the extra mode where you practice your aim with cans! Last up, we have Golf which is actually my least favourite sport in the entire game as it's so difficult to get right. Yes, I'm really bad at it but I wish I understood why as the game didn't help me improve my skills that much. As a result, it can be a frustrating sport but for those who master it, my hat is off so enjoy yourself! ⛳

Here are some oddballs in Nintendo Switch Sports Resort. Archery is an incredibly enjoyable sport that's very easy to play and just challenging enough. I love how realistic the controls are implemented and getting a bullseye always feels excellent, especially with the variety of courses. Boxing is one that didn't quite click with me due to its simplicity but I imagine some chums may enjoy duking it out together. Now, Thumb Wrestling is where it's at! This ridiculous sport is spot-on for multiplayer fun as it has some hilarious visuals and mechanics that really make it special. Specifically, you can rest your thumb to make it grow which makes pinning your opponent easier and the constant back-and-forth is a downright laugh riot! I wish more sports took chances like this as I had an absolute blast thumb wrestling my chum. 👍

Last up, we have Nintendo Switch Sports Resort's 3 leisure sports! All 3 of these sports let you explore large areas while collecting stuff like photos that tell you more about landmarks. Anyway, Prop Plane has you control a plane by tilting the Joy-Con and it's very relaxing stuff yet there's a competitive ball battle mode that can be super-fun with friends. Skateboarding is more involving as you use mouse controls to propel yourself forward while you steer and perform jumps; very cool! This one has a multiplayer racing mode, too. Finally, Power Cruising has you steer a watercraft as you leap from waves and navigate through rings while collecting life-savers; it's so much fun that it's my favourite of the 3 and this one has races through ring courses! It's just awesome that they packed these 3 games in because they're wonderful inclusions. 🌊

Nintendo Switch Sports Resort has so many excellent sports games that are exceptionally fun whether you're playing solo or with chums and it specifically makes local multiplayer a blast and with such delightful sights and sounds that bring it all together.
