The Scott L. Probasco, Jr. Distinguished Chair of Free Enterprise at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga (UTC) will host renowned Bitcoin developer, educator, and author Jimmy Song on Tuesday, Nov. 10, for a public lecture examining the economic implications of emerging technologies. “The Economic Impact of Artificial Intelligence” will take place from 3:30 to 5 p.m. in Room 200 of Fletcher Hall.
Organized by the Probasco Chair, co-hosted by the UTC SMILE Fund, and sponsored by Young America’s Foundation, the lecture will explore how advances in artificial intelligence are beginning to reshape productivity and the structure of the modern economy.
Mr. Song will examine both the opportunities and pressures created by rapid technological change, including how AI could influence growth, incentives, and long-term economic trends.
“Artificial intelligence is already changing how we work, how businesses operate, and how we think about productivity,” said Joshua D. Ammons, assistant professor of practice in economics at UTC. “As these technologies continue to evolve, it's important to understand not just what they're capable of, but how they could reshape our economy. We're looking forward to a conversation that explores both the opportunities and the challenges.”
Mr. Song is a Bitcoin developer, educator, and entrepreneur with more than 20 years of programming experience and has contributed to numerous open-source Bitcoin projects. He is the author of Programming Bitcoin, The Little Bitcoin Book, Thank God for Bitcoin, Bitcoin and the American Dream, and Fiat Ruins Everything.
In addition to his work as a developer and author, Mr. Song has lectured at the University of Texas, served as an expert witness in Bitcoin-related legal cases, and advised multiple companies. He writes the “Bitcoin Tech Talk” newsletter and hosts the “Bitcoin Fixes This” podcast.
Mr. Song’s lecture is part of the Probasco Chair’s ongoing work to bring students, faculty, and members of the Chattanooga community together for conversations about economics, markets, and the institutions that shape them.
