2024 model 911 GT3, GT3 RS, Turbo, Turbo S, S/T, Carrera GTS, 718 Cayman GT4 RS, and 718 Spyder RS cars are being called back.
Porsche typically reserves its center-lock wheels for its sportiest models—the cars with the highest top speeds and the most lateral grip: 911 Turbo S, 911 GT3 RS, and limited-edition models like the 911 S/T. And having a wheel come off any car while driving is a scary thought, but on a high-performance Porsche designed for the racetrack, it’s particularly terrifying. Unfortunately, that’s exactly the possibility facing owners of hundreds of 911 and 718 sports cars.
The German automaker is expanding an earlier recall involving defective center-lock wheel components and telling affected owners to stop driving their cars immediately. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), Porsche is recalling an additional 548 vehicles from the 2024 model year. The affected models include the 911 GT3, 911 GT3 RS, 911 Turbo, 911 Turbo S, 911 S/T, 911 Carrera GTS, 718 Cayman GT4 RS, and 718 Spyder RS. The original recall was issued in October 2024 and included 2251 vehicles from the 2024 model year; a Do Not Drive warning was issued for those cars, and the latest round is receiving the same warning.
The expanded recall follows two additional reports of fractured center-lock components in May and August of this year. Porsche launched an investigation with its parts supplier and discovered that the original process used to identify defective components had missed some potentially affected parts. Further investigation revealed that additional vehicles could have received components from the same out-of-specification material batch.

Owners of affected cars are expected to be contacted by phone, email, and the My Porsche app and advised not to drive their vehicles. Authorized dealers will inspect the center-lock wheel fastening systems and replace any improperly manufactured components at no charge.
Some safety recalls are more concerning than others, and we’d put the possibility of losing an entire wheel pretty high on the list. Affected vehicle identification numbers became searchable through NHTSA’s website on October 20. Owners should check their VIN as soon as possible, and if their Porsche is among the affected vehicles, leave it parked until the necessary repairs have been completed.
