Stellantis will launch a dozen new and upgraded vehicles across its Jeep and Citroën brands

Mumbai: Dutch carmaker Stellantis will invest an additional ₹4,000 crore in India in the coming three years and launch a dozen new and upgraded vehicles across its Jeep and Citroën brands as it aims to grow its market share threefold by 2030 and turn its Indian operations into a larger export hub.

The investment will support the introduction of seven all-new models and five major upgrades, with the first launch slated for the second quarter of 2027, Shailesh Hazela, chief executive and managing director at Stellantis India told ET.

Stellantis Group, which currently sells Compass, Meridien, Wrangler and Cherokee under the Jeep brand, and Citroen C3, its electric variant, Aircross mid-size SUV and Basalt coupe and C5 Aircross SUV in India, ranks among the laggards in the expanding Indian passenger vehicle market.

In FY26, it retailed 11,708 cars, fetching a meagre 0.25% market share. In the first nine months of FY27, it dispatched 4,747 vehicles to dealers from its factories, a 63% growth from 2,913 units a year earlier.

The company plans to roll out models across segments A, B, C and D, as well as minivans, with a mix of internal combustion engine (ICE), hybrid and battery electric powertrains. The investment will also support localisation, manufacturing capacity and customer experience.

“We are scaling up on the foundation we have created, starting with India and taking the same products to other markets,” Hazela said.

The additional outlay will take Stellantis’ cumulative commitment to nearly ₹15,000 crore, he said.

The company aims to achieve 90% localisation for vehicles manufactured in India, a move expected to improve cost competitiveness and ownership charges. It is also looking to boost exports, having already shipped Citroën cars to the Gulf and Africa and Jeep vehicles to Japan. It plans to enter left-hand-drive markets as well.

Stellantis currently exports nearly 350,000 transmissions and 250,000 engines globally from India every year, Hazela said, adding that the company intends to use its engineering, manufacturing and supplier capabilities to support other markets.

The product offensive comes as Stellantis seeks to strengthen its position in India, where Jeep occupies the premium end of the market while Citroën competes in the mass-market segment.

“With Citroën, we chose to be in a very competitive and tough market,” said Hazela. “We need to sustain and continue to grow.”. By 2030, the company wants to increase its market share to nearly three times its current level.

Stellantis is also working with existing dealer partners to expand its retail and service footprint and improve customer reach. For Citroën, it is increasing the use of mass media, regional-language content and local marketing initiatives to build brand awareness.

Hazela said the upcoming product programme would draw on Stellantis’ global capabilities and remain independent of its recently announced partnership with Tata Motors. “Any contribution from partners would be assessed at the product level, while preserving the distinct identity of Jeep and Citroën,” he said.
