Years ago I had downloaded the Nik Collection
The Nik Collection has undergone several changes in ownership. Up until 1997 it was an independent app. Then acquired by Google and now DXO. Older versions are likely not going to run on a current MacOS.
You can purchase the current version or try it for free at:
https://www.dxo.com/en/nik-collection/nik-silver-efex/
That said, Classic has undergone improvement that IMO make the Nik Collection obsolete. I haven't use it since it was a free Google app. It is not worth the DXO price of $180USD IMO.
I'm still using an older version from several years ago pretty much for sharpening only and not all the time. I wouldn't really miss it if it were gone. I am a very light editor though. I do have Topaz and I'm not even sure I need that. Every so often there's an image that I really like that needs sharpening that I can't wrangle without Topaz, but again...if I didn't have it...probably no big deal. LRC has really gotten to where it's all I need with rare exception.

Thanks I will have to refresh myself with LR and re-learn how to use is so maybe i will not need it anymore either. Thanks! And that price is pretty high too! Yikes!

I have heard Topaz is really great - may have to look into that one! Thanks!

I used the NIK/Topaz thing, but now I only use Lightroom Classic. Now I often click one button, and the picture transforms.

Classic developed DeNoise and this transformed the Lightroom Noise Reduction process making third party tools redundant. I kept hoping Adobe would develop an AI sharpening function to complement DeNoise. So finally they did by buying Topaz. Topaz Focus tool fixes those OOF images.
I have a license for Topaz Photos and all their tools but the focus tool is the one I use when I need help with my blurry photos. It is my hope to see some of the topaz tools in the next version of Lightroom and Photoshop

Like Clee said I was also hoping for a dedicated Sharpen AI tool as well. However since Adobe purchased Topaz not sure that will happen. Also as Clee said Adobe Denoise AI is excellent.
Currently the Topaz/Adobe linked DeNoise AI and Sharpen AI are only available in Photoshop, not LrC or ACR. Likely not in Lr either but I’m not sure. They use quite a few credits depending on sensor size. 10 or 20 credits.
Currently to get Topaz Photo as a plugin for LrC is quite expensive. We’ll see where this all goes at around Adobe Max.
If anyone needs a less expensive Sharpen AI option ON1 NoNoise has both Denoise AI and Tack Sharp. The current version is 2027.
I purchased NoNoise version 2024.5. Not for Denoising because I use Adobe Denoise AI. I got it for Tack Sharp and only apply it at the very end of my editing if needed. That includes all the manual sharpening tools. I call it sprinkling on the cake. I put more effort into all of LrC’s sharpening tools so I rarely use it now.
I’m waiting to see what is announced at Adobe Max before looking at NoNoise 2027.

One button? Really - you will have to tell me what you do and which button you use - I'm just re-learning how to do this and had LR 5 before.

For me, I'd say 70% of my Processing is done when I choose Adaptive Color.
My other workflow is:
If the focus is fuzzy, I'll Edit in Topaz and apply SuperFocus and Wonder3.
Me as well. First one button press is Denoise AI which I use most of the time. If I don’t use Denoise I apply Raw Details. The other one is the Adaptive Color profile.

Adaptive Color profile. I set my exposure compensation to +1 2/3 (ETTR). I will find a good example and post it to this thread unless @clee01l beats me to it.

At what ISO do you apply Denoise?

- Clarity
- Crop
- DeNoise when necessary

And I just cancelled Topaz. Seems I better change that back.
At what ISO do you apply Denoise?
Usually anything over 1,000 but exposure also makes a big difference. I apply it at lower ISO’s because it automatically applies Raw Details. Then I bring the Denoise slider down a lot.

Did not know that, I will give it a try for sure.

ISO is not relevant. Sure higher ISOs are noiser. But I look around the image at 200% to see noisy pixels. Especially dark areas and sky. This image was shot with a Pentax at ISO 280.

You will see the Raw Details box checked but greyed out after applying Denoise.

Thanks, learning so much today.
Yep not as much ISO as it is about good exposure. 1,000 is just a guideline for me. Viewing at 100 or 200% tells the story.
Forgot to say. Raw Details is much faster than Denoise AI so that is a factor for me as well.
I do really like Silver Effects for converting to black and white. The way to set pins with different radios as masks and you set micro structure, contrast, etc is fantastic.
Years ago I had downloaded the Nik Collection and I have not used my LR Classic for a long time and now want to use it more and recently uploaded photos and was wanting to use some of the Nik edits, but either they do not open and I have to reopen them several times, or they open but the photo is not in the screen to make adjustments. I am not very tech savvy and have some knowledge of the intel products that have to be updated. Is this one of those that has to be updated to work with my Mac now ? What do i have to do or what do I have to update to use these presets with my LR Classic? Thanks and much appreciated!
Thank you all for answering and I will try these when GI use it again which will hopefully be real soon!!
