I have noticed that when syncing large number of photos the stated number of photos syncing (when pressing the sync cloud only and not the gear wheel) falls into 2 groups :
(1) A number such as 2550 is stated to be syncing and this number gradually reduces to 0 and (2) A number of 10 or 20 is stated to be syncing, then the green tick briefly appears and then another 10 or 20 photos go into sync. This continues until they are fully synced. With the first group it is easy to keep track of progress. With the second group you really have no idea.
Any one know why this happens ?
Syncing is multi-threaded. Several CPU/GPU cores are involved. the first number represents the total images in sync. I think the second set may represent the number of local image being synced simultaneously. This is a guess on my part though.
Which direction are you syncing, Mark? I noticed back in June that syncing multiple images to the cloud from LrC seemed to happen in batches of 25, so yes I did see the cloud icon revert back to green tick between batches. It was also really slow even when doing simple metadata syncs (e.g adding already synced images to another collection still happened in slow motion in batches of 25). Syncing the other way, cloud to LrC did not exhibit similar behaviour. I reported it to Adobe at that time, but haven't re-tested since then to see if it still happens that way.

LrC to Lr. There seems to be no rhyme or reason why it sometimes shows the total number syncing which gradually reduces to zero (group 1) and other times why it syncs in batches of 10 - 20 photos (group 2).
