Экспериментальный космический корабль Европейского космического агентства. 

Cтруктура:

  • Защитные керамические щиты - предоствращают корабль от перегрева при прохождении через атмосферу.
  • Карбоновые панели - удерживающие внутренние элементы корабля.
  • Экспериментальные подсистемы.
  • Авионику - энергоустановка, система сбора данных, телеметрия и т.д.
  • Парашютная система - используется при возврате корабля на Землю.
  • Ускорители и закрылки - используются при маневрировании корабля в атмосфере.

12017-06-23. ЕКА подписала новые контракты на парижском авиасалоне.
Согласно сообщению европейского космического агентства:
В части средств выведения и двигательных установок:
1. Был заключен контракт на создание диспенсера для запуска космических аппаратов массой менее 500 кг. Предполагается, что данное устройство будет использоваться совместно с РН Вега С и позволят существенно увеличить рыночную долю носителя.
2. Было подписано соглашение о продолжении работ по модернизации наземной инфраструктуры с целью ее адаптации к РН Вега С.
3. Был подписан контракт на проведение дополнительных разработок в интересах придания РН семейства Ариан 6 возможности выведения 10200 кг на геостационарную орбиту. Эта работа должна будет позволить новому средству выведения осуществлять парные пуски космических аппаратов массой от 6 до 6.5 тонн и от 3.5 до 3.7 тонн. Технически будет прорабатываться вопрос увеличения объема топливного бака верхней ступени и общего облегчения бортовых систем.
4. Был подписан контракт на адаптацию РН Ариан 5 ЕСА в интересах выведения космической обсерватории JWST.
5. Был подписан контракт с Airbus Safran Launchers на начало работ по метановому ракетному двигателю. В данном случае речь идет о создании полномасштабного демонстратора ДУ Prometheus. Датой начала проведения НЭО назван 2020 год. Ракетный двигатель будет предназначен для ракет, которые будут использоваться европейским агентством после 2020-2030 годов. Товарная стоимость установки должна будет составлять $1.1 млн.
В части европейской навигационной системы: был подписан контракт на поставку дополнительных восьми спутников. Поставщиком выбрана немецкая OHB. Технически изделия будут аналогичны КА серии Galileo FOC, однако их будут отличать доработки, которые связаны с результатами эксплуатации уже существующих аппаратов. При этом, два из восьми заказанных КА будут составлять наземный резерв.
Кроме этого, ЕКА объявила о том, что при помощи разрабатываемой ею системы Space Rider она планирует начиная с 2025 начать предоставление услуг по транспортировке и возвращению научных космических аппаратов на Землю. При этом стоимость использования системы составит около 9200 долл. за кг. Оператором новой системы будет Arinespace, а ее разработчиками являются Thales Alenia Space и Lockheed Martin. Финансирование работ будет осуществляться за счет средств ЕКА. В качестве средства выведения системы названа РН Вега С. Местом приземления назван район Азорских островов. Высота орбиты, на которой планируется использовать новый блок, составляет 400 км. Длинна конструкции составит 4-5 метров и она будет иметь габариты в два раза меньше чем американский аналог X-37B.
