Компания Thales Alenia Space в мае 2014 года объявила о подписании контракта с корейским оператором KT Sat (подразделение KT Corporation) на построение двух телекоммуникационных КА Koreasat-7/5A. Целевой задачей аппаратов будет являться предоставление услуг доступа в Интернет и передача мультимедийных данных. В рамках контракта Thales будет отвечать не только за аппараты, но и НКИ.

Согласно Thales, космические аппараты Koreasat 5A и Koreasat 7 будут содержать в себе большое количество компонентов которые были напечатаны при помощи технологии 3Д печати. В частности, это будет касаться антенн для передачи телеметрии и приема команд, которые имеют габариты 45х40х21 см. и выполнены из алюминия. В качестве средства производства данных деталей компания Thales использовала созданный компанией Poly-Shape 3Д принтер Concept Laser Xline 1000R. Согласно сообщению французского производителя, использование данной технологии позволило:
1. Уменьшить вес изделия на 22 процента.
2. Сократить сроки создания на 2 месяца.

Южнокорейская KT Sat объявила о том, что она сумела получить контракт от монгольского сервисного оператора спутниковой связи на предмет сдачи в аренду одной восьмой от общей емкости КА. Запуск Ku диапазонного космического аппарата намечен на конец этого года. Средством выведения выбрана РН Фалькон 9. Всего заказчик планирует использовать полученный ресурс для передачи более чем 130 каналов спутникового ТВ. Thales Alenia Space to build Koreasat-7 and Koreasat-5A satellites Cannes, May 12th, 2014 – Thales Alenia Space announced today that it has signed a contract with the Korean satellite service operator KT Sat, subsidiary of KT Corporation, to build two telecommunications satellites, Koreasat-7 and Koreasat-5A, winning the contract against an international field of competitors. The two satellites will provide Internet access, multimedia, broadcasting and fixed communications services. As program prime contractor, Thales Alenia Space is in charge of the design, production, testing and On Ground Delivery (OGD) of the satellites. It will also take charge of the launch campaigns, the launch and early operations phase (LEOP) and in-orbit tests (IOT). Built on the Upgraded Spacebus 4000B2 platform from Thales Alenia Space, Koreasat-7 will be fitted with Ku-band transponders and Ka-band transponders. Koreasat-5A will carry Kuband transponders. Koreasat-7's coverage zone encompasses Korea, the Philippines, Indonesia and India, while Koreasat-5A will cover Korea, Japan, Indochina and the Middle East. Each satellite will weigh about 3,500 kg at launch and will offer payload power of about 7 kW. Koreasat-7 will be positioned at 116° East and Koreasat-5A at 113° East. Les satellites de télécommunication Koreasat 5A et 7 embarqueront les plus grandes pièces jamais fabriquées en Europe en fabrication additive Cannes, le 12 octobre 2015 – Les satellites de télécommunication Koreasat 5A et Koreasat 7, en cours de fabrication chez Thales Alenia Space, embarqueront les plus grandes* pièces pour le spatial jamais fabriquées en Europe en fabrication additive lit de poudre. Il s’agit des supports d’antenne TM/TC en aluminium, pièces jumelles quiont été fabriquées dans un même batch par la même machine. L’imprimante 3D utilisée est la Concept Laser Xline 1000R, la plus grande machine à faisceau laser d’Europe appartenant à Poly-Shape, société française partenaire de Thales Alenia Space. Ces pièces, au design organique innovant, viennent d’être recettées en vibrations et ont montré un comportement dynamique parfaitement reproductible. L’utilisation de la technologie 3D sur ce type de pièces comporte de nombreux avantages : gain de masse de l’ordre de 22 %, gain de un à deux mois sur le planning de fabrication, réduction des coûts d’environ 30 %, amélioration des performances. Un support d’antenne de ce type est d’ores et déjà en orbite depuis avril 2015 à bord du satellite de télécommunication TurkmenAlem fabriqué par Thales Alenia Space et le satellite Arabsat 6B qui sera lancé depuis Kourou en novembre prochain, emportera également des tripodes issus de la technologie 3D. Koreasat 5A and 7 telecom satellites to include the largest 3D printed parts ever made in Europe Cannes, October 12, 2015 – The Koreasat 5A and Koreasat 7 telecommunications satellites currently under construction by Thales Alenia Space will include the largest spacecraft parts ever made in Europe using a 3D printing technique called the “powder bed additive manufacturing process”. Measuring some 45cm by 40cm by 21cm, these telemetry and command antenna supports are made of aluminum. The parts for the two satellites are identical and were made in the same batch by the same machine. Thales Alenia Space uses the Concept Laser Xline 1000R 3D printer, the largest laser beam melting machine in Europe, belonging to Poly-Shape, a French company and partner of Thales Alenia Space. These two parts, featuring an innovative bio-design, have just passed their vibration acceptance tests, demonstrating perfectly reproducible dynamic behavior. Using 3D printing technology on this type of part offers a number of advantages, including 22% weight savings, a decrease in the production schedule of around one or two months, about 30% cost savings, and higher performance. An antenna support of this type is already in orbit since April 2015 on the TurkmenAlem satellite also built by Thales Alenia Space. The Arabsat 6B satellite, scheduled for launch from the Guiana Space Center in French Guiana in November, includes 3D-printed tripods.
