Спутник ДЗЗ. SCATSAT 1. [Редактировать]

Космический аппарат SCATSAT-1 является заменой для аппарата Oceansat-2, который посредством многонаправленной радарной установки должен предоставлять информацию для метеослужб Индии. Целевой информацией, которую планируется получать со спутника является вектор, характеризующий силу и направление ветра. На SCATSAT-1 установлен Ku-диапазонный прибор OSCAT-2, который во многом схож с полезной нагрузкой аппарата Oceansat-2 (прибор назывался OSCAT). OCSAT-2 будет работать в Ku диапазоне на частоте 13.515 Ггц. Космический аппарат будет базироваться на основе платформы IMS-2 Bus и будет иметь массу около 370 кг. Срок активного существования аппарата составит около 5-и лет.

Satellite Meteorology and OceAnography Research and Training [SMART] Training Programme Introduction to satellite scatterometry with a special emphasis on ScatSat-1 [STP-01/2016] Scatterometry Scatterometer is an active microwave sensor that transmits microwave signal and precisely measures the backscattered energy from surface targets. The amount of backscattered energy is dependent on surface roughness and the angle at which microwave energy strikes the surface. Scatterometer measurements over the oceans are used to measure near-surface wind speed and direction based on the sea-surface roughness. Scatterometer derived seasurface winds are useful for forecasting weather & cyclogeneis, air-sea interaction studies, monsoon studies, process studies, etc. Scatterometer data are also useful to study cryosphere and soil moisture. Being a microwave payload, scatterometer has the ability to see through the clouds and has all-weather sensing capability. Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) launched its first scatterometer onboard Oceansat-2 satellite on 23 September 2009 from Sriharikota. It provided good quality wind data until February 2014. Oceansat-2 scatterometer (OSCAT) winds were assimilated in to operational weather forecasting models of NCMRWF and ECMWF in real-time. OSCAT data were widely used for atmospheric, oceanographic, cryospheric and terrestrial studies. In continuation of OSCAT, ISRO is launching another scatterometer, ScatSat-1 in September 2016. Training on Scatterometry SMART programme of Space Applications Centre, Ahmedabad is organising a training programme on ‘Introduction to Satellite Scatterometry with a special emphasis on ScatSat-1’. This training programme aims to generate awareness about upcoming ScatSat-1 mission and scientific potential of ScatScat-1 data among students, faculties and researchers from across the country. Details of the Training Programme Date 19-21 October 2016 Number of 20 participants Target Group Ph.D students, Post-docs, early carrier researchers, faculties, etc., affiliated to recognised Universities and research institutions working in the field of Atmospheric science, Oceanography, Cryosphere and Land studies interested to explore the Indian Scatterometer data for their research and studies. ScatSat- 1 to help in predicting cyclones 5th Aug, 2016 India is set to acquire the capability for more accurate prediction and tracking of cyclones, with the launch of the ScatSat-1 satellite in September, ISRO chairman A.S.Kiran Kumar said on Thursday Salient Features The indigenously developed weather forecasting satellite will be equipped with on board instruments to monitor sea surface winds and help predict the genesis of cyclones The primary payload of ScatSat ScatSat-1 is a scatterometer to keep a watch on the speed and direction of ocean winds that indicate the formation and strengthening of cyclones. The satellite will have the capacity to monitor temperature and humidity and transmit 48 images per day. The best thing about this 301 kg satellite is that it is being built at 60% of the actual cost, and in one-third of the estimated time. About 40% of satellite is made by recycling the leftover equipment from previous revious satellite missions. It is a polar orbiting satellite that will take two days to cover the globe. The data will be used by NASA, European Organisation for the Exploitation of Meteorological Satellites, and National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration as well. Scheduled to launched by the PSLV PSLV- C35, the satellite is expected to replace Oceansat-2 Oceansat which is out of service after completing its life span. What is scatterometer? Such predictions help in timely evacuation and minimise human casualties. A scatterometer is a microwave radar sensor. It measures the scattering effect produced while scanning the surface of the Earth from an aircraft or a satellite. It will measure the direction and speed of winds over the seas and oceans. Background SCATSat-1 is an OceanSat-2 follow follow-up mission, actually a gap-filler mission between OceanSat-2 and -3, under development at ISRO (Indian Space Research Organization) with the objective to continue the global ocean wind vector data acquisition started by the OSCAT (OceanSat-2 Scanning Scatterometer). The satellite has been designed to withstand multiple system failures, unlike the last one. The information of global ocean surface winds is an important ingredient for weather forecasts. In particular, a need for global coverage of scatterometer data became evident, when NASA’s SeaWinds scatterometer on the QuikSCAT spacecraft ceased nominal operations in November 2009.
