Tehran says five people, including a child, were killed as it launched retaliatory strikes on US military facilities in Jordan and Bahrain

Iran has launched a new wave of missile and drone attacks against US military facilities in Jordan and Bahrain after American strikes on southern Iran hit a residential building where a wedding ceremony was underway, killing five people, including a child, and injuring dozens.

The US military began striking Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) targets near the Strait of Hormuz on Tuesday, saying the operation was launched in response to alleged Iranian attempts to attack commercial shipping and American troops in the region. President Donald Trump described the strikes as “large and powerful” and warned Tehran that any retaliation would trigger an even harsher response.

Iranian authorities said shrapnel from one of the US strikes hit a residential house in Kuhestak, in Hormozgan Province, where a wedding was taking place. The death toll later rose to four, including a young child, while Iranian media reported that the number of injured had climbed to 68.

The IRGC subsequently announced the start of what it called a “punishing response,” saying ballistic missiles had been fired at Camp Titin, a US military facility near Aqaba in southern Jordan. The Guard claimed that American troops were killed and military infrastructure and helicopters destroyed, although Washington has not confirmed those claims.

Iran’s regular army separately said it had launched drones against US facilities at Sheikh Isa Air Base in Bahrain, targeting radar installations and areas used by American forces.

Jordan said 13 ballistic missiles entered its airspace during the latest attacks, with ten intercepted and three falling away from populated areas.

The new escalation follows an exchange of strikes over the weekend, after US forces hit Iran’s Larak Island in the Strait and Tehran retaliated with ballistic missiles and drones targeting American military positions in Jordan. US President Donald Trump vowed to “hit Iran hard.”

Earlier, Washington launched what it called an “economic onslaught” against Iran, imposing new sanctions and threatening to boot any country dealing financially with Tehran out of the US dollar system. On Sunday, Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said new secondary sanctions would be rolled out every week against foreign banks and companies that continue dealing with Iran.

The Iranian strikes came hours after the US resumed attacks on Iran on Tuesday. President Donald Trump warned Tehran against retaliating.

“If Iran retaliates against these strikes, they will be hit again at a much harder and higher level,” Trump said, adding that an even larger attack is “waiting in the wings.”

“When it is over, there will be very little left of the Islamic Republic of Iran.”

Trump said the strikes are in retaliation for Iran’s “failed attempt” to lay mines in the Strait of Hormuz and launching eight missiles at a US military base in Jordan, which he said were all intercepted.

In a phone call with Fox News later on Tuesday, Trump escalated the threat, saying Iran would be “totally wiped out” if it strikes back. “This is a very big hit today. If it goes a third time, they’re going to be totally wiped out as a country,” Fox News quoted him as saying.

The IRGC said it had also launched dozens of kamikaze drones at two US military bases in the UAE, expanding its retaliatory strikes across the region.

The drones targeted radar systems and US forces at Al Dhafra and Al Minhad air bases, according to the IRGC. It described the Al Dhafra base as a key operational center of “criminal America in the region,” used for air operations, reconnaissance, surveillance, and support.

The IRGC said the attacks were retaliation for US strikes on Iranian residential areas and the “targeting of a wedding ceremony” in southern Iran.

Four people were killed in the US strike on the wedding gathering in Sirik county on Tuesday night, Al Jazeera reported, citing the Hormozgan governorate. The dead included a four-year-old child and a 16-year-old teenager, as well as two women aged 43 and 50.

Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) said on Wednesday it had killed “a number of enemy elements” and destroyed several drones in a missile and drone attack on Kuwait’s Ali Al Salem Air Base.

In a statement, the IRGC said its Ground Force carried out a “combined missile and drone attack” on the headquarters and residence of the US commander at the base. The strike reportedly set fire to a drone hangar and deployment ramp and destroyed several drones used in attacks on Iran.

Kuwait earlier said it had intercepted Iranian missiles and drones but reported no casualties.

The IRGC said the operation was carried out alongside strikes on US bases in Jordan, Bahrain and Erbil in retaliation for a US strike on a residential building in Sirik, southern Iran, where officials said a wedding ceremony was taking place. The IRGC said the strike killed four people, including a child.

Addressing Kuwaitis, the IRGC said the attack targeted the “US military presence” rather than the Kuwaiti people and called for the removal of American forces from the country.

Oil prices surged after the latest exchange of strikes between Washington and Tehran renewed fears of supply disruptions around the Strait of Hormuz. Oil prices initially jumped the US announced its strikes on Tuesday, with Brent settling 4.6% higher at $94.65 a barrel and WTI gaining 5.2% to $90.22.

Prices continued climbing early Wednesday, with Brent trading above $95 and WTI above $91.

All US personnel are accounted for following Iran’s retaliatory strikes, a senior American official told Fox News.

The official said US forces intercepted “the majority of” missiles fired by Tehran, with most of the missiles and drones reportedly headed toward Jordan. No major damage has been reported at US bases across the Middle East, the official added.

  • 04:03 GMT

Brigadier General Yadollah Javani, the IRGC’s deputy for political affairs, has urged regional countries hosting American forces to expel them and reclaim US bases.

“It would be better for you to expel the Americans from your countries and take back the bases,” Javani said, according to Tasnim.

Otherwise, he warned, Iran would deliver “decisive and crushing responses” to any attack launched from Kuwait, Bahrain, Jordan or any other country.

US forces struck around 100 targets during the latest round of attacks on Iran – including two government tankers anchored off Iran’s coast, north of the US naval blockade line, Axios reported, citing unnamed US officials.

American drones fired missiles into the tankers’ engine rooms under what one US official described as a new “tanker for tanker” policy reportedly approved by President Donald Trump in response to Iranian attacks on commercial shipping in the Strait of Hormuz.

Israeli warplanes launched multiple strikes on southern Lebanon, according to regional media reports. Al Mayadeen reported a heavy barrage targeting Nabatieh al-Fawqa, while Al Jazeera correspondents on the ground said the Israeli military carried out two air strikes on the outskirts of Kfar Ramman and Arab Selim.

At least seven people were killed and eight others injured in separate US missile strikes on three locations in Iran’s southwestern Khuzestan Province, IRNA reported, according to Al Jazeera. The casualties are separate from those reported in the strike on Kuhestak in Hormozgan Province, where a wedding was underway.
