ST. PETERSBURG, October 7. /TASS/. Russia has achieved full technological sovereignty in hydropower, with domestic manufacturers capable of producing the equipment required for every stage of hydroelectric power plant construction and modernization, RusHydro First Deputy CEO and Chief Engineer Sergey Kondratyev told reporters on the sidelines of the 18th scientific and technical conference Hydropower. "Overall, I can say with confidence that we have 100% technological sovereignty in Russia’s hydropower sector. In other words, from the very beginning of developing a dam site and constructing the dam, we can fully provide both the equipment and all the control systems using the capabilities of Russian industry," he said.

Power Machines Deputy CEO and Head of the Hydropower Division Vladimir Demyanov previously told TASS, the company is capable of producing a full range of equipment for hydroelectric power plants annually, with production capacity of up to 10 equipment sets totaling up to 2 GW.

Russia’s General Scheme for the Development of Electric Power Facilities through 2042 envisages the commissioning of 6.7 GW of new hydropower generation capacity, comprising seven hydroelectric power plants and four pumped-storage power plants. A total of 37 hydropower units of various capacities will be required. According to the document, the nearest commissioning dates for such units are scheduled for 2031, when eight hydropower units are due to come online, and 2032, when 13 units are scheduled for commissioning.

RusHydro is Russia’s largest energy company by installed capacity, bringing together more than 600 generating facilities. The total installed capacity of the company’s power plants stands at 38.7 GW.

RusHydro’s largest shareholders are the Russian Federation with a 62.2% stake, VTB Bank with 12.37%, and En+ holding company with 9.61%.
