The blockade of Cuba is extraterritorial in nature, with the US putting pressure on shipping companies, banks, and governments of third countries, Cuban Ambassador to Moscow Enrique Orta Gonzalez told a press conference prior to the October 28 vote at the UN General Assembly on a resolution against the blockade.

"Contrary to what Washington is trying to present, the blockade is not a bilateral issue between the two countries. Its extraterritorial nature persists, and it is being applied with absolute impunity, in clear violation of international law. The blockade is not limited to the territory of the United States. It is extraterritorial in nature: Washington exerts pressure on shipping companies, banks, and governments of third countries, seeking their suspension of trade, financial, or investment relations with Cuba," he said.
