SEOUL, October 23. /TASS/. South Korea’s Ground Operations Command has held an exercise simulating an all-out war scenario on the Korean Peninsula, the South Korean Army reported.

Such field training events are held annually, Seoul officials noted. This year’s drills involved about 4,100 troops from the Combined Ground Component Command, according to the Army. The maneuvers took place from October 19 to 23 as part of the broader Hoguk exercise.

Reconnaissance and artillery units were tasked with jointly detecting and destroying a simulated enemy, including through the use of unmanned systems, counter-battery radars, surface-to-surface missiles, and K9 self-propelled howitzers.

The troops also practiced responses to contingencies, such as an enemy attack on the task force unit and communications network jamming, as well as sustainment support training, including munition resupply. Under the command’s direction, air defense exercises were conducted using live ammunition.

On Thursday, South Korea and the United States held joint river-crossing drills near the city of Yeoju, 65 km southeast of Seoul, aimed at enhancing interoperability as part of the annual Hoguk military exercise. The drills involved about 130 pieces of military equipment, including KM3 bridge-laying vehicles, K2 tanks, and K21 infantry fighting vehicles. During the drills, South Korean and US troops jointly installed and crossed a bridge spanning a 280-meter section of the river. The Imjin River flows near the Demilitarized Zone in the west of the Korean Peninsula.
