The Westfjords recently welcomed Blanche Montemard, Icelandair’s official “Really Bad Photographer”, as part of the airline’s international campaign of the same name.

The idea behind the campaign is simple and brilliant: Iceland is so photogenic that even someone who openly admits to being a bad photographer can come home with great photos. Blanche was selected from more than 127,000 applicants and has been travelling around Iceland with a film crew, attempting to capture some of the country’s most beautiful places.

In the final days of her journey, Blanche visited the Westfjords, where Visit Westfjords helped welcome the team and support their visit to the region.

During her time in the Westfjords, Blanche explored some of the places that make this part of Iceland so unforgettable. She visited Hvítanes to photograph seals, stepped into the maritime history of Ósvör in Bolungarvík, turned her camera toward Dynjandi, one of the Westfjords’ most iconic waterfalls  and travelled to Látrabjarg to see puffins on Europe’s western edge.

Along the way, Blanche discovered what many visitors quickly learn: the Westfjords are not just beautiful, they are full of character. Dramatic landscapes, rich stories, wildlife, small communities, quiet roads and unexpected moments all come together here.
