As part of their Autumn Preview, Games Workshop has announced another part of their initiative to get into the tabletop RPG market with Necromunda Roleplay, a new TTRPG that aims to mix tabletop RPG with the skirmish wargame.

Necromunda Roleplay is a miniature driven TTRPG that takes the rules and systems of the skirmish system and focuses down even more compared to the wargame. The Skirmish game focuses on gangs of different types, with each player controlling one gang, while the TTRPG has each player controlling one character. This mixture of wargaming and RPG elements harkens back to the earliest days of RPGs when they grew out of the wargaming community and games. The system that we see with character sheets, show that it is using the same stats as the skirmish game and the same resolution methods.

The Necromunda Roleplay Core Set comes with a 224 page rulebook, 18 plastic miniatures, 2 double-sided playmats, a D10, a D100, a D6, a Firepower Dice, an injury dice, an arbiter's screen (a game master's screen essentially) and 11 player handouts with rule references, in addition to 50 blank character sheets, along with 4 for the iconic base characters.

The 18 miniatures are made up of the 4 miniatures for the iconic characters, 8 hive scum who can be equipped with various weapons, and 5 adversary characters (including one with a servo skull). The miniatures are all compatible with the Necromunda skirmish wargame, and vice versa. Characters in the game are bounty hunting venators from one of the 6 clan houses, underhive, or are a squat, each with their own backgrounds and archtypes.

The four iconics each come with different builds, providing a way for players who are new to RPGs to easily customize their experience without having to dive into the deep end of character creation. It's also possible to build characters who you've built for skirmishes and bring them to adventures, or they might be adversaries that the arbiter uses.

Also releasing is the first 'journal', an expansion called Journal Apocrypha: Denizens of the Hive – Adversaries Book 1, a 48 page book with profiles for an additional 51 adversaries or allies that the arbiter can use.

Personally, this is a way to easily bring wargaming fans over to the RPG side of things that I can see using with those that I've played Necromunda with. Once I've gotten some trained up, I can even convert some of my Orlock miner gang over and maybe be a player for once.
