Anne Hathaway is clearing the air after a viral video showed her ordering photographers around at the premiere of her new film Verity, her new thriller co-starring Josh Hartnett and Dakota Johnson.
Appearing on The Tonight Show this week, Hathaway, 43, called the footage “the stuff of nightmares.”
Walking the red carpet in New York City alongside her co-stars, Hathaway instructed photogs exactly where they would look.
Before host Jimmy Fallon showed the clip, Hathaway said, “I know exactly what you’re going to show. It can only be one thing. It’s horrifying … It’s like the stuff of nightmares.”
“You were just trying to organize everyone, while all the photographers are taking your picture,” Fallon said. “You kind of went into mom mode.”

“It’s like mom mode by way of a chorus line,” the Oscar winner explained. “The thing about it was, I was trying to be helpful. There were so many of us, and the photographers were getting upset. The vibe was changing … So I did the thing and as soon as I was done, I went, ‘Oh, no.'”
Fallon said she must have known that moment was about to go viral.
“I was like, ‘I’m trying to get you your picture,'” she said.
Afterward, she realized that there was video of her encounter. “I went into a full cringe crouch on the inside,” she said. “I apologize, everybody. That girl came out to play last night. Actually, she didn’t come to play. She came for business.”
‘The energy every group photo needs‘With the vid racking up more than 2.3 million views on X, netizens had plenty to say about Hathaway becoming the “ultimate red-carpet traffic cop.”
“Anne took over that red carpet like a wedding planner on overtime,” one person wrote. “Meanwhile, I cannot get three people to pose for a group photo without someone blinking. Respect the command presence.”
“That’s the energy every group photo needs,” another added.
This isn’t the first time Hathaway has set off a social media frenzy.
Back in 2024, after sharing her “nightmare interview” with Blake Lively, journalist Kjersti Flaa posted her tense chat with Hathaway from 2012.
As the segment made the rounds online, the actress reached out to apologize to Flaa.
“I have to say, I was pretty shocked,” Flaa said on TikTok, via Page Six. “I had not expected her to reach out to me at all. I thought she was never going to even see that video, but she did, and she did something pretty amazing. She sent me a long email explaining to me what she was going through right then when she was doing this interview, and she apologized for giving me an awful interview.”
