30+ year Sky customer – told I was leaving, now being charged £300+ to cancel TVI’m wondering if anyone else has experienced anything similar with Sky.I’ve been a Sky customer for over 30 years and have never switched provider before. On 3 September I called Sky because my bill had increased again. After around 20 minutes trying to agree a better price, we couldn’t reach an agreement, so I told the adviser I wanted to leave.I actually wanted to cancel there and then, but the adviser told me not to and advised me to leave things as they were so there wouldn’t be any disruption while I changed provider. I followed her advice. My clear understanding when I finished that call was that I was leaving Sky. I was also told I would receive packaging to return my equipment.I switched to BT, my BT equipment arrived on 17 September and my broadband transferred. I returned the relevant equipment and thought everything with Sky was being dealt with.I’ve now discovered that Sky TV was never cancelled and I’m still being charged for it.I called Sky today and was told that my TV is still in contract and it will cost me over £300 to cancel it.I was absolutely shocked. If the adviser had told me on 3 September that my TV was still in contract and that switching would leave me with a £300+ cancellation charge, I would never have switched to BT in the first place.Sky are saying they sent emails, but my issue is what I was told during the telephone call when I made the decision to leave. I specifically asked them to retrieve and listen to the recording of my 3 September call. They have now escalated this and told me I should hear back within 5–7 days.I have also submitted a formal written complaint so there is a record of everything.Has anyone else had this happen? And if Sky listen to the call and it confirms I wasn’t clearly warned that my TV contract would continue or that I would face £300+ in charges, surely I shouldn’t be expected to pay an early termination fee? After more than 30 years with Sky, I’m incredibly disappointed with how this has been handled.
