The brand’s minimalist Bauhaus designs are frequently injected with playful colors to go along with their German pragmatism, and that juxtaposition has helped the brand gain a strong following over the course of its relatively short lifespan (the brand was founded in 1990, making it a veritable toddler compared to many of its horological competitors).

Now, Nomos has just updated one of its most beloved watches in a very Nomos way: by adding a fun new color option and updating the movement to be more practical.

The Metro Date Power Reserve, with its modernist dial design and unique asymmetric power reserve indicator that uses color to display how much juice remains in the movement, has gotten an update with the new “Ice Blue.”

As its name indicates, the Metro Date Power Reserve Ice Blue features a light blue dial with a metallic finish that perfectly suits the watch’s contemporary, urban design inspiration. Its minute and hour markers are all represented by dots, with white dots representing the former and blue dots the latter.

A small-seconds indicator remains above a trapezoidal date window at 6:00, while the power reserve indicator is offset just northeast of the hand stack. The complication has received an updated color palette to match the new dial, with the display now changing from teal to light blue to white as the mainspring’s energy runs low.

Flip the watch around, and you’ll see an all-new, in-house, manually wound movement through the sapphire caseback. Not only does this movement, Calibre DUW 4701, feature some fancy finishing with sunburst striping radiating from the proprietary Swing escapement, but it also adds quickset-date functionality to the Metro Date Power Reserve for the first time; a long-awaited feature.

Notably, this new movement has also been added to the classic white-dial Metro Date Power Reserve. Its power reserve is 52 hours, giving you a couple days and change to check out the color-changing display on the dial.
