Yet last spring, a trendy rival from the very same brand reared its relaxed-fit head: the Light Gust Jacket.

At the time, GP’s Ben Bowers did a deep-dive comparison of the two offerings and found they have much in common, including shells and linings made mostly of recycled materials, a DWR finish and 60-g synthetic insulation, a center front zipper, two hand warmer pockets, elasticized cuffs, and a drawcord-adjustable hem.

Key differences? The Nano Puff’s chest pocket is internal, while the Light Gust’s is external. The Light Gust is notably heftier (16 ounces versus 11.9) and has a roomier fit, matching current outerwear trends.

(Fun fact: the women’s Light Gust Jacket boasts a handy bonus feature even the Nano Puff doesn’t offer — a two-way zipper.)

The retail price of $239 was also identical, and though the Light Gust has since risen to $249, the case for snagging one is strong right now as it’s on sale for up to 50 percent off, dropping the price as low as $124.

(The Men’s Nano Puff is technically also on sale, but the selection is limited to Sizzle Red in two less common sizes, small and XXL.)

One major caveat is that the deal only applies to Gumtree Green (for men) and Quiet Violet (for women, 40 percent off, $149).

That said, the Hooded Pullover variant is also 50 percent off in all three shades for men and Caper Green for women, dropping its price from $289 to $144. 

As GP’s Hayley Helms recently pointed out, the Shirt Jacket variant is also 50 percent off in three colors, dropping from $239 to just $119. (The women’s version is 30 percent off in two hues, dropping to $167.)

Bottom line: There are lots of ways to score a sweet deal on a fall- and winter-ready garment that’s just as capable as the Nano Puff and, depending on your tastes, even more stylish.
