MichalI think this is the key to your issue: "They want to secure a dependable copy, backup, virtual machine, or file-level replication of the legacy system and data before the hardware fails, "In that case, they want to move the system to emulation.  An emulator can run on whatever hypervisor the customer wants (VMWare in your client's case, it appears) and the old alpha hardware goes in the trash.  No software changes are necessary, in fact users typically don't know the system has been moved.  Our firm, software concepts internaltional, is a certified reseller and installer of Charon emulation.  I'd be happy to discuss more specific options with you, if interested.  You can send e-mail to mccusker at sciinc dot com.
