(LifeSiteNews) — A TikTok video is going viral for appearing to depict a pregnant woman scheduling an abortion after learning her baby was a boy.

The video, uploaded by “Kenna daisy,” scrolls between images of a positive pregnancy test (“the moment I found out”), an ultrasound photo of a baby (“the moment I found out it was a boy”), and a Planned Parenthood appointment page for a “Procedure” (“the moment I booked that appointment,”) followed by a laughter emoji.

“And that’s that,” the description reads simply, followed by hashtags for #prochoice, #abortion, #left, #prolife, and #fyp.” As of writing, the post has racked up more than 434,000 likes and over 44,000 comments, many expressing shock, disgust, and sharing pictures of their sons.

Daisy engages with some critics in combative and dismissive ways. The first commenter shares a picture of “my beautiful baby boy,” to which Daisy simply asks, “beautiful?” Another objects, “yall jus set us woman back another 100 years,” and Daisy responds, “Girl stop being a pick me, most men will literally shame you for how you dress.” She also agrees with a supportive poster’s declaration, “Not giving birth to no one’s future abuser or grapist,” adding she would be “ashamed.”

The user had no other videos uploaded to her account as of Thursday morning, so little is known about her, including whether she was actually pregnant or if the video was an engagement stunt. Regardless, the use of abortion to discriminate on the basis of sex is very real.

Sex-selective abortion is a persistent problem around the world, particularly in China, whose population-control policies have resulted in men outnumbering women by 33 million. In 2019, a study published in the Proceedings of the U.S. National Academy of Sciences found that sex-selective abortion has eliminated more than 23 million girls worldwide.

The pro-abortion United Nations Population Fund acknowledges that “Worldwide, 142 million girls are missing as a result of son preference, daughter aversion and gender-biased sex selection. These girls were unwanted, neglected, abused or malnourished – deprived of the care they needed to survive.” However, the organization’s page on the subject neglects to explicitly connect it to abortion.

13 states ban most abortions starting at conception; another five ban it once a fetal heartbeat can be detected (around 6 weeks), with additional states imposing a range of later restrictions. In all states where abortion is legal, seekers can do so for any reason they want, including sex-selection. 

In 2019, Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas excoriated the court for its refusal to uphold a portion of an Indiana law banning abortions specifically sought due to a child’s sex, race, or disability, arguing approval of the practice would “constitutionalize the views of the 20th-century eugenics movement.”
