Mumbai: With growing awareness of mental well-being at the workplace, 61 per cent of jobseekers are open to disclosing mental health-related leave, a report said on Monday.

The report by job portal Naukri.com signals growing acceptance of mental health conversations at the workplace.

The report, based on inputs from 10,000 jobseekers across 8 cities and 83 industries across the country, found that 42 per cent of respondents cited poor work-life balance as the biggest workplace factor impacting mental health followed by a lack of managerial support (27 per cent) and heavy workload and deadlines (20 per cent).

This highlights that mental well-being is closely linked to everyday workplace culture and management practices.

However, 33 per cent of respondents said their biggest concern about opening up about mental health at work was the possibility of losing career opportunities, while 32 per cent worried that nobody would care.

A further 19 per cent of respondents said they feared being seen as weak, and 16 per cent were concerned about their situation becoming office gossip.

When asked how companies could better support employee mental health, 53 per cent of respondents said clearer boundaries between work and personal time would be the most effective measure.

The report added that 22 per cent of respondents favoured training managers to identify signs of burnout, while 13 per cent preferred dedicated mental health leave and 12 per cent sought greater access to counselling support.
