If you have a ROG Xbox Ally X or an X20, there is something new worth trying. ASUS has just announced that a preview version of AMD FSR 4.1 technology is now available for testing, promising to change how we run demanding games on these handheld devices.
Until now, upscaling technologies have helped improve performance by lowering the internal resolution. However, with this new version, AMD includes neural networks and machine learning as part of its Redstone suite. The result is that the console can produce images with quality that competes directly with native resolution, without sacrificing performance.
AMD FSR 4.1 Brings Better Image Quality and Performance to Handheld Consoles
The interesting thing is that this AI model has been specially optimized for Ryzen AI Z2 Extreme processors, making it very lightweight and efficient, something essential when relying on a portable battery.
If you like trying new features before anyone else, you can now download this update very easily. Simply open Armoury Crate SE on your console, go to the Update Center, and look for the preview section to install the latest graphics driver. Since this is a test version, you may experience some minor bugs or instability. If you prefer complete stability, you can wait for the official release.
In addition to games that already support this technology natively, the good news is that you can enable this AI-powered upscaling in more than 400 games that already use FSR 3.1 or newer versions.
To do this quickly, simply go to the console’s Command Center, add the shortcut, and you’re ready to go. However, it is recommended not to combine it with other technologies such as RSR to avoid conflicts.
