RefSeq release 236 is now available online and from the FTP site! You can access RefSeq data through NCBI Datasets. The release is provided in several directories as a complete dataset and also as divided by logical groupings.    

What’s included in this release?  

As of July 6, 2026, this full release incorporates genomic, transcript, and protein data containing:   

• 629,953,391 records  
• 482,864,455 proteins  
• 83,806,434 RNAs  
• Sequences from 182,465 organisms  

This release contains new or updated annotations generated by NCBI’s eukaryotic genome annotation pipeline for 50 species, including:  

• The pig, Sus scrofa, based on new T2T assembly Sscrofa_HxYL_maternal_Yorkshire_Landrace_v2.0 (GCF_054392235.1-RS_2026_06) 
• The turkey, Meleagris gallopavo, based on updated assembly MGAL_WU_HG_1.1 (GCF_905368555.1-RS_2026_06) 
• The Gulf Coast tick, Amblyomma maculatum, based on new assembly ASM5588380v1 (GCF_055883805.1-RS_2026_06) 
• A mosquito, Anopheles minimus, based on new assembly idAnoMini7.1 (GCF_965234385.1-RS_2026_06) 
• The European crab apple, Malus sylvestris, based on updated assembly drMalSylv7.3 (GCF_916048215.3-RS_2026_06) (pictured)

We are exploring criteria for reducing the number of genomes included in the dataset for frequently sequenced prokaryote species such as Escherichia coli. If you’re using large sets of RefSeq prokaryote genomes and may be impacted by a change, either positively or negatively, we would like to hear from you.
