Ducati introduced the Desmo450 MX in 2025 as its first foray into the world of motocross competition, and the bike was, rightly, the product of a serious effort.

After first announcing the project in 2021, the Borgo Panigale manufacturer spent four years developing it into something production-worthy before finally debuting a polished result in 2025.

Even so, Ducati is already back with another pass, as it’s given the Desmo450 MX a meaningful update for 2027. In more ways than one, it stands to improve on the brand’s first off-road model.

Improved ergonomics

Ducati says it took feedback gathered from the first season of racing to improve “performance, ergonomics and robustness.”

Accordingly, in addition to tweaking the final drive ratio for more response, the brand also redesigned the gear and brake pedal tips for better feel and fitted the tank with a larger 40mm filler cap for faster refueling.

The bike will also run Pirelli Scorpion MX32 Mid-Soft tires in 80/100-21 and 110/90-19 sizes from the factory.

To increase reliability and durability, Ducati has made some choice tweaks, revising the starter motor gear coupling tolerances, tweaking the water pump oil seal geometry and reinforcing the exhaust manifold in the silencer connection area.

The brand also updated components like the chain guide support, fork slider guards and front engine-to-frame brackets, all of which face regular impact and stress.

When you consider that the bike also runs Ducati’s predictive maintenance tech, it promises some respectable longevity, as the brand says it will enable more precise maintenance planning tailored to actual riding conditions.

A treat for US riders

While Ducati has left the 449cc single alone for 2027, it did make a few other changes to the bike for the US market.

Based on “extensive local-market feedback and testing,” the suspension now benefits from tweaks like a new 22mm triple clamp offset up front and an updated fork oil level.

Those changes are further complemented by additional refinements at the rear, as Ducati has also increased the spring rate and revised the shim stack to provide more support during jumps and landings.

While most riders won’t notice every one of these refinements, the bike does bring one immediately recognizable difference in its refreshed look. The new black-on-red graphics are a clear step up from the previous white logos, though the Factory version’s Ducati Corse livery remains the more elevated option.

Availability and pricing

The MY27 Desmo450 MX is arriving in select North American dealerships in late October. The price holds at $11,495 in the US.
