Prolife Alberta gave Conservative Premier Danielle Smith an 'F' for her government's lack of decisive action against abortion.

(LifeSiteNews) — Prolife Alberta gave provincial Conservative Premier Danielle Smith multiple “F” grades for her government’s pro-life initiatives and actions and called out her “failure” to protect “innocent human life.”
Last week, the group released its “Report Card” rating on abortion. Smith has been Alberta’s premier since 2022.
Smith failed on almost every front, getting an “F” on parental consent, chemical abortion, taxpayer-funded abortion, abortion bubble zones, late-term abortion, and babies born alive. The only positive rating was a “B” for adoption.
“Four years ago, while campaigning to become leader of the UCP, Danielle Smith was asked what she would do about abortion, including taxpayer funding and restrictions on free speech outside abortion facilities. Her answer? ‘Safe, legal, and rare,'” Prolife Alberta said.
“She was quoting Bill Clinton. She didn’t mention his name.”
Richard Dur, executive director for Prolife Alberta, told LifeSiteNews that members of the Smith’s governing United Conservative Party (UCP) should look hard in the mirror to see if she should remain as leader.
“Any leader who fails to protect innocent human life has failed in the most fundamental responsibility of government,” Dur said.
“But Danielle Smith’s record raises a more troubling question: What are we to make of a Premier who has had four years, the authority to act, and repeated opportunities to do so, yet has left those opportunities unanswered? Her failure cannot be explained away by a lack of time or opportunity.”
Four years of ‘inaction’ on pro-life issues by Smith, says Prolife AlbertaDur said that four years of “inaction” by Smith on life issues is a “damning record of deliberate inaction.”
Despite the presence of UPC MLAs at the Alberta March for Life, Smith, while far from being pro-abortion, has not made good on a promise to bring forth a referendum to ban late-term abortions.
Dur said that there are things Smith can do now to support some pro-life initiatives such as by implementing the UCP’s own Policy 206.5(b), which calls for “parental consent for invasive medical procedures involving minors.”
“Yet Alberta still has no general parental-consent requirement for minors seeking an abortion,” he added, noting that Smith should end “taxpayer funding for elective abortions.”
He said that she should also repeal restrictions on “free speech around abortion facilities, prohibit remote prescribing of chemical abortion drugs, deliver on the promised review of AHS policies concerning babies born alive following attempted late-term abortions, or pursue any number of other common-sense pro-life legislative measures.”
Prolife Alberta has previously called on Alberta’s provincial health minister to keep her word to protect newborn babies who have survived botched abortions.
The issue of botched abortions in Alberta and Canada has been brought to light recently after Prolife Alberta called attention to the fact that data from the Canadian Institute for Health Information (CIHI) “confirms that in Alberta, infants are still being born alive following labour-induced late-term abortions and left to die.”
As previously reported by LifeSiteNews, many of Smith’s views, including those surrounding gay “marriage” and public funding for abortion, remain at odds with traditional conservative values, a fact that has made her a target of the province’s largest pro-life organization. However, she did say last year she is in favor of adoption over abortion.
