He was portrayed as a sensitive barista-turned-model in front of millions of Australians on Channel Nine's Married At First Sight this year.

But for Billy Vincent's mother, Colleen, the man she saw on national television was but a shell of her son.

Appearing on Channel Seven's Sunday Night, Colleen recalled the agonising experience of watching Billy being 'bullied' and 'belittled' night after night in front of millions of viewers.

'I don't think I've seen any male break down like Billy did on national television,' she said. 

'It was horrible. I wanted to reach into the television and grab some of the people and say 'stop!'.'

The teary-eyed mother spoke of how she was scared for her 27-year-old son's safety, after he was seen breaking down numerous times on the hit 'social experiment', as he attempted to make his on-screen marriage to 'wife' Susie Bradley work.  

'I was frightened for my son, I was extremely worried about him during [the show], I couldn't contact him [and] I know it hurt him deeply.'

'For him to cry and not be able to stop I did not, nobody expected it. I think it would have got pretty dark,' she added. 

When asked if she thought the producers had been fair to Billy, an emotional Colleen point-blankly said: 'No'. 

'Because I believe there should have been a duty of care and bullying is illegal.

'Belittling people is the lowest form of entertainment,' she concluded.

Billy broke the hearts of viewers all over Australia after he was seen repeatedly breaking down in uncontrollable emotions while Susie made constant jabs at his 'overly-sensitive' personality.

In one instance, Susie called Billy a 'little dweeb' and told him to 'grow some balls'.  

Since the show has wrapped, Susie has gone on to date bad-boy NRL star Todd Carney while Billy has been recently linked to 20-year-old Instagram model Lily Buhl. 

In his latest attempt to distance himself from all things MAFS, Billy announced he was selling both his wedding ring and suit on eBay.

The hunk took to Instagram on Monday to announce that the money raised from the ring will be donated to charity. 

In a video clip shared to the social media platform, Billy revealed he will equally split the funds between charities for Hirschsprung's disease and men's suicide prevention. 

'Guys I've decided that half the money that's raised from selling this destiny is going to Hirschsprung's disease,' he said.

'That is a rare genetic bowel disorder disease that most of the MAFS crew have gotten behind,' Billy added.

'And half to a cause very, very close to my heart and that's men's suicide prevention. So get behind it, make a bid on that ring - she's gorgeous!'

The bid for the ring on eBay is now sitting at a price of $316.
