Traveler satisfaction at Logan International Airport is climbing higher.

The Boston airport ranked No. 9 in the the 21st annual J.D. Power 2026 North America Airport Satisfaction Study, released on Wednesday — higher than its No. 10 ranking for the past two years and its No. 16 ranking in 2023 and No. 17 ranking in 2022.

Traveler satisfaction was determined by examining seven factors (in order of importance): ease of travel through airport; level of trust with airport; terminal facilities; airport staff; departure/to airport experience; food, beverage and retail; and arrival/from airport experience.

Logan Airport was ranked among the mega airports, defined as airports that welcome 33 million or more passengers per year. Logan Airport, which saw 43 million passengers last year, earned a score of 622 out of 1,000 — above the average of 617. Last year, Logan earned 608 points, which was above the average of 603. In 2024, though it achieved the same No. 10 ranking, it fell below the average of 595 with 591 points.

Overall satisfaction has increased 14 points for mega airports, according to the study, due to capital improvement projects.

“For the better part of the last decade, nearly every airport, from the largest international hubs to midsized airfields, has undertaken a significant capital improvement project aimed at streamlining passenger flow, adding attractive food and beverage options and improving overall passenger experience,” said Michael Taylor, managing director of travel, hospitality and retail at JD Power, in a statement. “On the whole, those efforts are finally starting to pay off in the form of higher overall passenger satisfaction scores.

“We’re just continuing to listen to our customers at Logan,” Rich Davey, CEO of Massport, told The Boston Globe. “We’ve still got work to do. My ambition is not to be in the top 10. My ambition is to be in the top 5 in the next couple of years.”

Davey, who returned to Boston from New York City Transit two years ago, was just awarded a 6% pay raise for his efforts.

Massport’s 2025 year in review included the following: “2025 was a year of growth and innovation at Boston Logan International Airport, with more international flight choices, improved customer amenities, and critical safety enhancements shaping the future of travel.”

The airport is satisfying more customers, in part, due to new nonstop routes, new food and beverage options, and safety upgrades to its busiest runway, according to the review.

“From roadway improvements and work on a new garage to enhanced digital signage and faster Wi-Fi, every step reflects our commitment to a smarter, smoother, and more enjoyable journey for all,” noted the review.

Travelers can learn more about recent upgrades in Massport’s airport modernization report. Earlier this year, Logan received $2.8 million in federal funding to renovate its play areas for children. Massport also introduced a first-of-its-kind remote terminal in Framingham.

The No. 1 ranked mega airport was Minneapolis-Saint Paul International Airport for the third year in a row, with a score of 684.

The J.D. Power study surveyed 24,710 travelers between July 2025 and July 2026 from the U.S. or Canada who had traveled through at least one U.S. or Canadian airport during the past 30 days.

This summer, Massport approved a preliminary billion dollar makeover plan of Terminal C that will create “a light-filled grand hall similar to those in European airports.”
